How to Prepare for Your Boudoir Session: Wardrobe, Hair, and Mindset

So you’ve booked your boudoir session—yay! Now comes the part that makes many clients pause: what the f*ck do I wear? And even more importantly… how do I feel confident in front of the camera?

Let’s break it down with tips to help you show up feeling powerful, prepared, and totally in your element.

1. Lingerie Shopping Tips: What to Look For

Choosing the right pieces can make or break your comfort and confidence. Here's what to keep in mind when shopping:

Choose Styles That Flatter YOUR Body

Don’t shop based on what you’ve seen on Instagram—shop based on what makes you feel sexy. If you don’t feel good in it, it’s an absolute NO for your session.

  • Bralettes, bodysuits, high-waisted panties, and corsets are all amazing options

  • Think about which areas you want to highlight vs. leave a little mystery

  • Try on multiple styles—even if it’s outside your comfort zone—you might surprise yourself!

🛍 Try Local and Online Boutiques

Skip the department store chaos.

  • Local lingerie boutiques often offer personalized help, especially if you visit La Femme Dangerous in Woodbury, NY (and tell Nikky I sent you)

  • Online shops like Savage x Fenty, Playful Promises, Aerie, or Yandy carry inclusive sizing and trendy options

  • Be sure to check return policies—boudoir isn’t one-size-fits-all

🎀 Don’t Forget the Accessories

Garters, sheer robes, thigh-highs, and jewelry elevate your look without extra effort. Sometimes the hint of lingerie is more powerful than the full set.

2. Tackling Mindset Blocks Before Your Session

It’s 100% normal to feel nervous. Most women do. Here are a few common mindset blocks and how to bust through them:

“I need to lose 10 pounds first.”

Nope. Your body, right now, is already worthy of celebration. Most of my clients say they wish they had done it sooner. Boudoir is about embracing where you are—not waiting for someday. Plus if you’re working with a professional, they can pose you in a way where you’ll view your images as if you ARE 10 pounds less.

“I’m too awkward/not sexy enough.”

It’s my job to guide you. You don’t need to know how to pose or smolder—you just need to show up. Trust me to pull out your fire and finesse. I demonstrate the poses for you, scan you from head to toe and eventually get to a point where I make fun of you because you start doing it on your own without me telling you what to do.

“What will people think?”

It doesn’t matter what people think. This experience is for you—not for anyone else’s approval. Boudoir is private, empowering, and deeply personal. Let go of the outside noise and lean into your “main character moment.”

3. Confidence Tips to Feel Amazing On Camera

Confidence doesn’t mean being perfect. It means being present. Here’s how to own it:

💃 Start with What You Love About Yourself

Whether it’s your smile, your collarbone, or the way your legs look in heels—focus on those features first. I’ll help highlight them during your session.

📸 Practice Posing in the Mirror

It might feel silly, but this builds muscle memory. Put on your lingerie, play your favorite hype playlist, and move around. What feels good will look good. But also don’t worry because I will help you from top to bottom (both bottoms) with that.

🧠 Shift the Focus From “How Do I Look?” to “How Do I Feel?”

When you’re in your body, connected to your power, that’s when the magic happens. Boudoir isn’t about performing—it’s about embodying your sensuality.

Ready to Step Into Your Power?

Your boudoir session isn’t about looking like someone else—it’s about discovering the most radiant, confident version of you. From what you wear to how you show up, the only rule is this: you are already enough.

Got questions about what to bring or how to prep? I’m always here to help. Let’s make magic together.
